Dataviz for Colombia’s peace referendum

This is a visual exploration of the geographical and economic data related to Colombia’s peace referendum from 2016. The referendum was created to ratify the termination of the Colombian conflict between the FARC guerillas and the government. Against all international and humanitarian expectations, people voted against it. What is happening with peace in Colombia is a bilingual data visualization that examines the relationship between where people live, and whether they supported the peace referendum. The result was a painful truth: Those who lived in war zones supported the peace deal. Those in safer areas didn’t. What is happening with peace in Colombia also takes a look at the amendments between the rejected agreement and the finalized document, which was revised and signed later that year. The culmination of this conflict awarded the president the Nobel Peace Prize
